The Allman Brothers Band Museum at The Big House
In January 1970, Linda Oakley put on her best “Susie Homemaker” dress and met a realtor to see a large Tudor style house in the quiet Vineville area, hoping to make it a home for husband Allman Brothers Band guitarist Berry and their baby daughter. It would affectionately become known as The Big House, and the place where band members, along with their roadies, friends and families would call home until 1973. It was the band’s gathering place, rehearsal hall, and respite from long trips on the road. In 2010 the house was reopened as the only music museum in the nation to be housed in a band’s former residence.
