Several years ago, a local historian developed a project to celebrate the preservation of downtown Macon’s commercial business district buildings, many dating from the late 19th century. Using research from a number of resources including the Middle Georgia Archives at the Washington Memorial Library, she created a beautiful walking tour, strictly historical and architectural in style and content. To mark each point of interest, bronze plaques with etched historical photographs of each building’s former use are adhered to the exterior wall, complementing the tour map.
