Tubman African American Museum
“Come in curious, go home colorblind,” from self-taught Georgia artist Rodney White’s painting in the Tubman’s permanent collection, is the perfect mantra for the surprising museum tucked inside a seemingly tiny building on a downtown Macon corner. Once inside, visitors are amazed at the depth and breadth of exhibits, art, history and culture they find on display. The museum, founded in 1981 by a white Catholic priest and named in honor of Civil War era anti-slavery hero Harriett Tubman, offers an eye-opening look at the indelible stamp of African Americans on our current culture. Open Tuesday-Saturday, year-round.
