    Macon State College

Founded in 1968, Macon State College offers 18 professionally oriented bachelor’s degrees tailored for the economic needs of Central Georgia. Enrollment has jumped by more than 80 percent since 1995, and is expected to climb steadily now that the long-time commuter school has added student housing as part of $107.5 million spent on building projects. The spruced-up campus hosts the annual Cherry Blossom Festival’s Tunes and Balloons.

    Live and Learn

Last year, Macon State inaugurated its long-awaited residence life program with College Station, a milestone development expected to attract and retain more students with an enriched sense of community. After renovating a former apartment complex on Ivey Drive into a 330-unit dormitory, the college hired a top-notch residence life staff and began rolling out a variety of extracurricular activities, to the delight of the students nesting and Scotch-taping posters to the walls.

What MSC Brings to the Workforce

The college’s teachers, nurses, and business students score especially high in post-graduate licensing exams -- teachers, in fact, enjoy a 100 percent pass rate. The School of Business students’ scores are often in the top 10 to 20 percent compared with 450 other schools of business from across the United States. Recently, the college added a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a four-year, online program for Information Technology.

    Play Ball!

Committed to developing body and mind, Macon State has an emerging sports scene with new competitive tennis, basketball, rugby, soccer, and cheerleading clubs to go along with the successful baseball club started that advanced to the national World Series in 2010. As part of the school’s creative Health and Wellness Program, students also can take P90X and Zumba classes and enjoy paintball, billiards, and table tennis. And there are other events that keep campus life colorful --- the “dive-in” movie night, when students swim in the campus pool while watching “Iron Man 2”; a dragon boat race at Lake Tobesofkee; and a “Monster Dash” Halloween fun run.

    Money Matters

Crunch the numbers. Macon State College’s Center for Economic Analysis, founded in 2005, has become an influential player in central Georgia, advising government leaders on efficiency and serving as an official feeder of regional economic information to the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta.

    No Sticker Shock

At Macon State, you easily can earn a four-year degree for less than $13,000. The college also has a robust endowment of more than $6.5 million invested to support student scholars.

    Flying High

Macon State has forged strong ties with nearby Robins Air Force Base, collaborating on a co-op program that directly prepares students for specific jobs at the base. The college has introduced programs in government contracting, lean production and operations management --- all in direct response to workforce needs at Robins.
