Things to Do this Halloween Weekend

It will be hard to top last weekend for things to do. If you were out of town last weekend you can catch up on all you missed in last weekends blog post or take a peek at the photos in our photo gallery.

This Halloween weekend we have another fun filled line up of events loaded into our Top Picks for things to do.

MUSIC IN MACON

With all Hallows Eve falling on a Friday there are tons of chances to get out and enjoy some seasonal festivities . The fun starts off with two exciting concerts in Macon on Thursday, October 30th : National headliner, Ray LaMontagne, brings his soulful and heartfelt music style to the Macon City Auditorium   and nationally known artist, Slick Rick, comes to the stage at Cox Capital theatre on Thursday, October 30th as well. Slick Rick kicks off his national tour right here in Macon and he brings some pretty heavy weight credentials with him from years of rap and hip-hop hits.

The rest of this weekend’s music choices can be found in our Live Music Calendar which is always loaded with all the details you need to know about each venue and the artists that are playing live around town.

We give a tip of our hat to a band that would easily win the contest for best band name, the Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash who are playing at the Hummingbird on Halloween. Even without the very cool name, one which Johnny Cash himself gave permission to use, this band from Austin Texas is worth seeing live.

One more Live Music event that needs to be considered as a Top Pick this weekend is the Macon Pops “Classically Jazzed” concert taking place on Saturday, November 1st  at the Macon City Auditorium. We even have a music video of a past Macon Pops performance to help you decide if this show is for you…

Rounding out this weekends music events is an experience this Sunday at Henderson Stadium that is sure to get you on your feet and cheering. No, it’s not a football game; it’s the Battle of Bands competition where marching bands from around the area will compete to see who has the best moves and sounds. If you have seen a battle of the marching bands before you are in for a real treat.

DON'T MISS EVENTS

Thriller Night:  Friday, October 31st the Thriller Parade will be marching through downtown Macon. This marks the 9th annual performance of the Thriller Parade where the dead shall raise in tribute to Michael Jackson’s Hit Song “Thriller”. If you have not witnessed this event before it is something to behold as dozens of costumed dancers reenact the Thriller music video dance to a live audience. Complete details and a video can be found here :

For the rest of the Halloween festivities  in and around Macon this season your Gatekeeper’s have put together TWO Top 5 lists of events you may want to attend. One list is for the more family friendly events and the other is for grown up kids (adults) to enjoy. Just about everything you can imagine to get you into the seasonal spirit has been thought our by our team. Yes, we also have events for your pets as well.

Our talented Gatekeeper staff even wrote a poem about Halloween in Macon and it goes something like this:

All Hallows Eve in Macon Georgia

When Darkness falls across the land
will your Halloween be dull and bland?
Don’t sit around for Come What May,
for you have a friend called Gateway.

From family treks through a maze of maize,
and tasty treats guaranteed to craze.
From costume parties sure to thrill,
and grisly haunts that make blood chill.

A walk by tombs, down Riverside
where ghosts themselves tell how they died.
Then downtown, a sight that’s killer
the parade they call… The Thriller.

LOCAL HISTORY

After eating all that Trick or Treat candy and whatever Halloween party beverages you imbibe, get outside for a little workout at our  Top Pick event; A Guided 4 mile hike at the Ocmulgee National Monument Lamar Mounds. Since you will be hiking around ancient Native American sacred grounds this can still be considered part of your Halloween weekend experience.

There was a rumor floating around town that the Hay House was haunted. We can’t verify this claim, but you can experience a bit of history come to life this weekend as the Hay House presents “Welcome To Our Home: A Tour Through Time” on Saturday, November 1st.

There it is, yet another awesome weekend of fun, entertaining and unusual events for you to pick and choose from to fit your leisure time tastes. The next time you think “What is happening this weekend?” go to GatewayMacon.com to get all the details. It's Everything you need to go before you go.
