Fall Happenings- Things to do this weekend in Macon

Real Fall weather is coming to Macon this weekend, which means It's time to break out your scarves and hats and embrace Georgia's best season. It can be hard to get excited about going out for the weekend when the thermometer is over 95 degrees and the humidity is equal to that of a spa sauna. Now take that same weekend and roll in some cool crisp Fall highs in the low 50’s, wipe out the humidity, add in some falling leaves with vibrant colors and throw on your favorite sweater.... Now It's a great weekend!

Get outside and do something!

Get Fit
Our first Top Pick event this weekend is a great opportunity to embrace the Fall weather head on by getting outside, the Middle Georgia Wellness and Fitness Festival has several outdoor events planned to get you in shape during this first ever Fitness Festival in Macon, Ga. Don't worry, there are plenty of indoor events as well just in case you get cold feet after running in the Ronald McDonald House 5k run.

Fall Football
What could be a better way to enjoy a crisp fall day than attending a college football game? Attend a tailgate party with your favorite fall foods grilling away and take a stroll through one of the most beautiful college campuses in Georgia during one of the most pictureque times of year. It’s all part of the Mercer Football experience and this is your last chance this season to enjoy a Mercer Football game in real football weather. In case you haven't bought your tickets and you are feeling lucky, then enter our Gateway Giveaway for two reserved seats to this weekend’s game

Backyard Bash
As kid growing up the backyard was always a place to get outside and find some adventure. Well The Big House’s Backyard Boogie is kind of the same thing but for grown ups! There is always a family vibe at the Big House Backyard Boogie events and this Saturday promises to be another good show at the The Allman Brothers Band Museum as Randall Bramblett will have the backyard at the big House hopping with some great music.

Walk About Town
If a Fitness Festival and football games sound like too much effort, no problem. How about a stroll downtown where you can imbibe your favorite cold weather beverage while soaking up some of Macon’s Music heritage. The Free Birds & Night Owls Tour is taking place this Friday night at 9 p.m., departing from the Rookery (543 Cherry St.) in downtown Macon. This walking tour takes a little over an hour and pays homage to the downtown landmarks, nightclubs and favorite haunts of Macon’s music history heroes. Dress warm, the music scene downtown may be hot, but the temps are gonna be cold.

A Few Uniquely Macon Events

Ghost Hosts
Macon has a uniqueness all its own, one great example will be on display this weekend at the Cannonball House. This charming old school southern mansion has been preserved through time to let Maconites remember their heritage, that southern charm will come to life as the CannonBall House presents Candlelight Apparitions during which you  will meet some of Macon’s most prominent citizens of the 19th Century and hear their stories told in one unique setting.

O Christmas Tree
A truly Macon event is kicking off this weekend is The Festival of Trees, the premiere showcase of how Christmas is done right in the south. This event is so southern that it was recently named as one of the Top 20 events in the entire Southeast by the Southeast Tourism Society. It is best to attend this event BEFORE you put up your own Christmas tree since after visiting the Festival of Trees you may to motivated to throw your tree out and start over again with fresh inspiration

Cans for Bands
Macon’s rich musical heritage and local talent is one of Macon's greatest assets and some of that local talent along with regional recognized acts with be rocking downtown this weekend. Happening this Saturday is A benefit for the Middle Georgia Food Bank featuring 8 Bands. You can gain admission to this benefit concert by bringing at least 3 cans of food. Of course, Our Live Music caldenar has all the details along with streaming music clips from many of the bands performing.

There are also lots more live music options in our Live Music Calendar which has quickly become the go to source for finding out who is playing where and when in and around Macon. We call it the Jam Agenda,  we hope you call it the best source for music info in town.

Don’t forget if you need some options for eating out this weekend we got that covered as well with a detailed list of restaurants and some great restaurant reviews.

More Things to Do

Nuns that Stun
No problem, there are a few more Top Pick things going on this weekend in Macon… One of Macon’s best venues to catch a live theater production, The Grand Opera House, is featuring the Broadway Hit “Sister Act”  on Sunday . The hype goes something like this, “Sister Act is Broadway’s feel-amazing musical comedy smash!”.  The New York Post calls it “Ridiculously fun,” and audiences are jumping to their feet in total agreement! We recommend the late afternoon show and catching Sunday Brunch at any any one of these fine downtown restaurants,  Lemongrass - A Thai Bistro, the Rookery , Market City Cafe and Dovetail.

Civil Stories
If you are a history buff and love all things related to the Civil War then you will love this next thing to do this weekend. The Georgia Sports Hall of Fame will host a lecture series on the battle of Walnut Creek. Every aspect of the pivotal battle will be examined and dissected by historians. You can find more details here.

Repeat after me, “There is so much to do in Macon, Georgia this weekend!”
