Historic Macon Announces Macon's Fading Five For 2016

August 31st - Bonnybrae-Bedgood House, 1073 Georgia Avenue, Macon, GA @ 11am

Historic preservation agencies across the country create endangered lists to raise awareness about historic structures and places that are threatened by neglect or possible demolition. Endangered lists help preservation organizations create strategic plans for saving significant historic resources in their community.

Historic Macon has determined five properties in Macon-Bibb that will be included in 2016’s endangered list, known as Macon’s Fading Five.

Historic Macon’s preservation committee uses Macon’s Fading Five to create strategic preservation plans for each of the listed properties. Properties will remain on the list until the property is no longer under threat or the preservation committee determines it has been appropriately preserved.

Since the inaugural Macon’s Fading Five was published in August of 2015, four of the five properties have been determined saved by Historic Macon’s preservation committee. The press conference will be held at one of the properties from last year’s list that has been considered “saved.” The Bonnybrae-Bedgood House was purchased in 2015 and is currently undergoing a full rehabilitation by a family who will make the house their home.  Updates on the status of last year’s properties will be provided in addition to the announcement of the 2016 list.
