At its meeting on February 21, the Macon-Bibb Commission approved an agreement with the Macon- Bibb County Urban Development Authority (UDA) to support a new hotel and multifamily development, as well provide needed parking for the City Auditorium and nearby businesses and residents, by building two new parking decks.
Now an announcement has been made that a six-story Hyatt Place hotel will be part of the new Poplar Street development. The 84,151-square-foot hotel is just a portion of a proposed $50 million mixed-use downtown development which will be built at 630-678 Poplar Street, and is expected to include an adjacent parking garage with 350 parking spaces.
“The facade incorporates a design inspired by notes on a musical staff; interior design cues include vintage musical instruments; and a courtyard at the west end of the gallery walk is an intimate setting for performances, according to a report by Alpharetta-based architects Wakefield Beasley & Associates." The Hyatt Place amenities will include a rooftop terrace, bar, workout facility, kitchen, meeting space and ground floor outdoor seating. Other projects to be developed would include 120-140 unit apartments, retail storefronts and a restaurant.
Work on the hotel is expected to begin in August and the projected date of competition is Fall 2018.
