Nutcracker of Middle Georgia Announces Audition Dates for 33rd Season

The Nutcracker of Middle Georgia, which is the producing entity for the annual production of the magical holiday favorite “The Nutcracker” at the Grand Opera House, announced today that it has set audition dates for its 2017 production.

Currently enrolled dance students who will be 8 years old by Sept. 1, 2017, are welcome to participate in the auditions. Taking place this year on two different weekends, the auditions will be held on Saturday, Sept. 16, at Porter Auditorium on the campus of Wesleyan College (4760 Forsyth Road in Macon, Georgia), as well as on Saturday, Sept. 23, at Stratford Academy’s Henry Tift Auditorium (6010 Peake Road in Macon, Georgia).

Between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, ballet students are invited to audition for the roles of Clara, Spanish, Chinese, Marzipan, Flowers, Snow, Columbine and Harlequin. The entire audition, including Snow, will be on pointe.

Between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23, students who are currently enrolled in a dance studio have the opportunity to audition for the roles of Jesters, Angels, Toy Soldiers, Little Boys, Fritz, Calvary, Mice, Maids, Heralds and Dragons. Those wishing to audition for the role of Little Girl must be 10 years old by Sept. 1, 2017. The Jack-In-The-Box (gymnast) and all adult roles for Act One (Ladies, Gentlemen, Date, Young Soldier and Rats) will also be held on Saturday, Sept. 23.

For both audition dates, registration will begin 30 minutes prior to audition times. There is a $10 audition fee, and the audition form may be filled out in advance (accessible via the Nutcracker of Middle Georgia website at www.midganutcracker.com/auditions.php).

Press photographers are invited and encouraged to attend the auditions and may arrange participation through the contact information at the top of this release.

The 2017 production of “The Nutcracker” will be the first to feature new Artistic Director Alice Sheridan at the helm. Sheridan takes over from founder and longtime Artistic Director Jean Weaver, who retired after the 32nd production in December 2016.
