Macon’s new baseball franchise is on track to start its inaugural season next summer, but not without a new name. Last month Macon-Bibb’s new Coastal Plain League team announced five finalists for the team name and then asked fans for feedback. The five finalists were: Macon Soul, Macon Bacon, Macon Hits, Macon Heat, and Macon Noise.
“We looked through the nearly 1500 submissions and wanted to identify names that could be fun for everyone. It could be either a play off the name of the city or something unique to Macon like the city’s musical history,” said team president Todd Pund. “Now comes the real challenge of developing a logo and colors for these ideas that fans will be proud to wear.”
Tonight, 400 guests gathered at the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame to take part in a historic moment; baseball's return to Macon and the announcement of the new team name. Guests dined on "themed snacks" before packing the theater in anticipation of the name reveal.
After a month of speculation and waiting, Macon Baseball revealed that MACON BACON will kick off the 2018 summer season at historic Luther Williams Field as Macon's brand new baseball team.
