Longtime Macon Sports Bar Calls It Quits

Alas, Macon is losing another long time leisure related business. It was announced this week that CJ’s Sport Bar and Grill on Riverside Drive will be closing their doors after 16 years in business. No, CJ’s was not the most upscale sports bar in town, but they did provide a convenient location with decent food, lots of screens for sports viewing, stiff drinks and a friendly staff. We had a chance to talk to the owners and they basically told us that the last year or so was a real battle to make a profit. They told us that for 16 years CJ’s was more than just a business, it was a labor of love. They were saddened for their regulars that the doors were closing and thanked everyone that ever enjoyed a football game, party or just an evening with friends in their establishment. On the bright side, the owner did mention he was in negotiations with several interested parties who wanted to renovate the place, but there is no concrete plans at this time.

CJ’s made Gateway Macon’s Top 5 list for the best place to catch a college football game. I guess we will be updating that list soon.
