Hay House

When wealthy entrepreneur William Butler Johnston took the lovely Ann Tracy as his wife, he whisked her away on a four-year grand tour of Europe. Upon their 1855 return, they planned and built their dream home based onthe beautiful villas they had seen in Italy. Now considered one of the state’s most distinguished structures, the Johnston-Felton-Hay House in Macon, Georgia, was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1974. Filled with the finest imported European materials and artistic details by Italian craftsmen, the mansion was completed in 1859. The Palace of the South is open year-round for touring, most notably during its popular Christmas at Hay House event.
