November Is A Great Time In The Music City!

November, it’s a great time in the music city!

As we get closer to the winter holidays, November is a great time to live in Macon and Middle Georgia!  Besides visiting with friends and family this holiday season, there are some wonderful musical activities for the entire family to enjoy and at great prices!

First up, on November 3rd, the Friends of Macon Music are holding the “Macon Music CD Volume 2” concert  at The Cox Capital Theater. Doors open at 7pm and tickets are only $10. Get a free copy of the “Macon Music CD Volume 2” the night of the concert or stop by the offices of NewTown at 555 Poplar Street Macon, GA 31201 and tell them I sent you to get one. Remember, the CDs are free and the concert goes to assist local music endeavors.

I envisioned the Macon Music CD over 10 years ago, but it wasn’t until I met Josh Rogers at NewTown that we finally got things going. Josh and I came up with some improved concepts and together we launched the Macon Music CD. Now on our second volume, the concert is in the capable hands of “Friends of Macon Music” and this is a very exciting addition to what we already had in place.

The first “Macon Music CD” had such amazing bands and artists such as:

Mat Rogers
Savanah Alday
Kim Meeks
Joshua Neal
Station 13
Tash and the Boys
Lisa Daniel
Dean Brown

This year features another stand out group:

Somekids
Gloria Stanley
Josh Graff
Josh Garner
Muddle Jawja Band
Swain and the Highway Souls
Gringo Grande
Rewind Retry
Sophie Leveille
Michael Leverett

Trust me, this CD represents our town in a way I am proud of and with a great verity of music guaranteed  to satisfy what ever kind of mood you are in or genre you love.  If you don’t want to be bothered with an old school CD, you can always find the “Macon Music CD” V-1 and V-2 as a free digital download on the Newtown website:  www.newtownmacon.com/music

Next up, I will be performing acoustic guitar and vocal for my friends at Kudzu in downtown Macon on November 10th from 6 to 9pm, so come out and eat some great food with me and you’ll sing a song, I’ll sing a song and we’ll sing a song together!

Finally, if an outdoor festival with some great southern rock and blues is more your style, then you got to get out to the “Sky Dog” music festival in Central City Park on November 20th.  Here is what the official press release says about the event:

On Sunday, November 20 Noon to 5:00 PM Central City Park Macon, Ga.  We anticipate over 3,000 people to gather in Celebration of the birthday, life and music of Duane "Sky dog" Allman. This will be our 11th Anniversary!   Duane “Skydog” Allman would have been 70 years old this November.  GET READY for a packed audience, a packed stage and a very packed food truck.

SPECIAL GUEST MUSICIANS:

Chris Hicks, guitarist for the Marshall Tucker Band is one of our own locals. Each year he has been on tour but for 2016, he finally is able to play Skydog! We welcome back each year our great friends and great musicians, Paul Hornsby and Lamar Williams Jr.  A great host of talent, led by the infamous Ken Wynn, will be charging the hill as our amazing, world class rhythm section Hits the Note for us all. We appreciate each and every one of these musicians who come out to make this event the fun and inspiring time that it is.  We are honoring our two friends who passed away last year, Gregg and Tim Brooks. We are honoring Christopher Lovell, son of Buddy Lovell, whose life ended tragically.  Thank you Buddy (AV Services) for your support of Skydog and the Rescue Mission. We honor Christopher’s life with you and your family.  We are presenting the “Skydog Award” to Robert Coleman and Mama Louise always graces us with her beautiful self and presence.  The good people who came to Skydog last year donated 5 tons of food to benefit the Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia. Erin Reimers, director, tells us that this one offering each year assures that their residents will have canned goods for most of the year and adds a big THANK YOU! Let’s make it 7 tons this year everyone!

Admission to Skydog 70 is TEN or more canned goods PER PERSON.  Our goal is 7,000 pounds  Add some non-perishables to your bag.

Put the Sunday before Thanksgiving on your calendar. Sunday, November 20, 2016 and send your friends to www.skydogmacon.com  for all the details. We’ll see you, your family, and your generous food donation at Skydog 70. Noon to Five  --  Central City Park Macon, Ga.

So, get out and enjoy some music-- Macon style-- in November.  I hope to see you there!
