Grant's Lounge 47th Anniversary

The Historic Grant’s Lounge will celebrate its 47th year in business soon and has planned a special program to acknowledge this milestone on its actual anniversary, Friday, February 16, 2018, beginning at 6:00 p.m. (The big “Birthday Party” will be held on Friday, March 2.)

The “Home of Southern Rock” is the only nightclub in the region located in its original location and it is managed and owned by the same family since it first opened to the public 47 years ago. During this month as we celebrate Black History Month, the owners of Grant’s Lounge, Edward Grant Jr. and Cheryl Grant Louder, are thrilled that their establishment also is the only continuously operating nightclub in the region founded by an African American.

“Operating this historic venue with such a diverse clientele has been challenging, but Cheryl and I are proud that we’re still here and continue to offer a diverse array of music,” stated Edward Grant, Jr.

Founded in 1971 by their father, Edward Grant Sr., an avid golfer, motorcycle enthusiast and pioneering businessman, wanted his club to make a loud statement about people and the oneness of human beings. He wanted Grant’s Lounge to be a place where anyone could enjoy music and the company of other music lovers.

It was from this modest establishment in downtown Macon that much of what the world now knows as “Southern Rock” was conceived. And during its early days, Grant’s Lounge forged synergistic relationships with pioneering organizations, including Phil Walden’s Capricorn Records. This made Grant’s Lounge a pivotal hub for emerging bands that were able to gain experience on a "live stage.”

The “Wall of Fame” is an authentic roll call of musicians that Grant’s Lounge hosted, which includes giants like the Allman Brothers, Tom Petty, Wet Willie, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Charlie Daniels, Eric Quincy Tate, Elvin Bishop, and The Marshall Tucker Band, among many others.

Cheryl Grant Louder appreciates the long-standing support of the community and stated, “We are grateful for the loyalty of our customers because we would not be in business today without their continued support and encouragement.” Her brother added, “Grant’s Lounge belongs to the people.”

Everyone is invited to drop by Grant’s Lounge on Friday, February 16th – beginning with a Reception at 6:00 p.m. – to help this iconic establishment acknowledge their 47th milestone anniversary. Admission to see and hear the evening’s headliner, Ladies of Interchange, a locally-based show band that performs cover tunes in a variety of musical genres, is $5.00. There also will be a “Sip & Paint” event at 9:00 p.m. for a separate admission of $15.00.

The Grant’s Lounge 47th Anniversary Party will be held on Friday, March 2, beginning at 7:00 p.m. More information about the celebration will be provided soon so like and follow Grant's Lounge on Facebook for updated information on this anniversary celebration.
