As you know, China Inn was number three on our Top 5 for Chinese takeout through Gateway Macon voters and our own Gatekeeper staff. Well after those recommendations and even more recommendations from my fiancés friends we decided to check it out. Chinese food is usually take it or leave it for me, but I was willing to give it a try.
Walking in, I was immediately struck by the number of people in the restaurant. Chinese restaurants tend to be almost completely deserted on the dine-in side, due to large amount of take-out orders. The dining room was simple, but clean. We decided to go all out and get everything on the menu that interested us: Wonton Soup, Gyoza (dumplings), Crab Rangoons, Sesame Chicken and Hibachi Chicken.
The soup arrived first, so steaming hot that I burnt my mouth (my fault- not theirs). The broth was perfect, not overly salted but still flavorful. It was my first time trying Gyoza, and they were fantastic! They might not be everyone’s cup of tea but they reminded me of my grandmother's chicken and dumplings in one little pouch. I only wish we’d gotten more- on our next trip we might just get three orders and call it a day.
I can’t go to a Chinese restaurant without sampling their Crab Rangoon, and I felt these were pretty standard, but still yummy. On to our entrees, the hibachi chicken wasn’t covered in soy sauce, and tasted freshly made (which it is! There’s a hibachi grill right up front, where you can watch him cook your food). The real star was the chunky lo mein noodles. Oh my god. So perfect. I had the sesame chicken and the sauce wasn’t overly sweet or heavy. Just a perfect addition to the crunchy exterior. We will definitely be returning. It was honestly the best fried rice, lo mein and sesame chicken I’ve ever had. China Inn, just got two new regulars.
