Good Mexican food is a part of the New South. Just about every southern city has a good selection of Mexican cuisine to choose from and here in Middle Georgia we have an abundance of choices. Our online survey was packed with replies and our Gatekeeper's were working overtime visiting as many restaurants as possible. Here are the results; TOP 5 Best Places for Mexican Food around town.
1. La Parilla
While we always try to lean in favor of the local guy, the chain operation at La Parrilla is the go to favorite choice of our recent survey of the best Mexican restaurant in town. On numerous visits to this location our Gatekeeper’s all agree they do a fantastic job of providing a quality meal in a great setting. Our team all seemed to have a favorite dish at the Macon La Parrilla and when it comes to desert you cannot beat their Chocolate Brownie and ice cream! When the weather is nice the outdoor seating at this location is a great option.

2. El Sombrero - Forsyth Road
This Mexican eatery has been a favorite of Maconites since the day it opened. Conveniently located in the Kroger shopping center on Forsyth road this El Sombrero location is always busy and for a good reason. The service is always fast, the food is always good and the price is very reasonable. 3. Margarita's - Mercer Village
Conveniently located in downtown’s Mercer Village, Margaritas is a popular hangout for locals and students alike. The food is reliably good and the wait staff some of the nicest around. A big plus for this Mercer village hotspot is their impressive beer selection with 32 craft beers on tap and their excellent Margaritas. If you ever find a spare afternoon we highly recommend taking a stroll around Tattnall square park then stopping in to Margaritas for a margarita, salsa and their tasty guacamole. As huge supporters of Mercer athletics, Margaritas is also a go to destination for watching Mercer while they are on the road.

4. El Sombrero- Baconsfield
A sister location of our number two El Sombrero on Forsyth road, the El Som at Baconsfield also known as El Sombrero number 7 is a worthy contender for Macon’s best . We’ve found that the steak and chicken at this location is above average and the service exceptionally fast. While they are located off a busy highway, the walled in patio is unexpectedly serene in the summertime.

5. Polly's La Mesa
Macon Ga's first Mexican restaurant, est. 1976 35 years and counting! Polly’s is definitely a local favorite, and holds a special place on the restaurant scene. Located on Pio Nono, Polly’s is home to (arguably) the best salsa and guacamole in town. The great food and service make this a definite “go-to” place for Mexican food.
