Top 5 Meat and Three Restaurants in Macon
Homestyle Cooking. It is a staple here in the south and Macon has some truly good eats to offer up for those looking for some comfort food. The decision was a tough one to choose just the top 5 in town so we took it to the survey and asked fellow Maconites to weigh in. The race was tight but here's the final ranking:
1. The Bear's Den
1191 Oglethorpe St, Macon, GA 31201
For over 25 years, The Bear's Den has been producing the south's best home cooking. Conveniently located near downtown Macon, they offer dine-in, take out, pan pick up, and full catering options. The menu changes daily so check out their website to find out what’s being served today. The food is always fresh, hot and delicious. The take-out is so easy just walk in and let them know what you want, I don’t think we have ever waited more than 5 minutes to just get it and go. So many options every day always make it a difficult decision. Macon clearly agrees with us, as Bear's Den has earned to high honor of Best Meat and Three Restaurant in Macon!
2. Miss Hattie's Kitchen and Bakery
7248 N. Alexander Ct, Bolingbroke, Georgia 31004
Nestled in the quaintly southern town of Bolingbroke you’ll find Miss Hattie’s Kitchen & Bakery. This family restaurant serves some of the finest southern cooking, and is definitely worth the drive! Miss Hattie’s is a real full-service restaurant offering indoor &outdoor seating with waiter service, take out, catering, and you can either walk-in or make reservations. The menu is a mix of traditional American, soul food, southern cuisine, and burgers. Once you dine at Miss Hattie’s, you will definitely put it on your list of go-to places for southern food.
3. Jeneane's Cafe
524 Mulberry St, Macon, GA 31201
In 1989, Jeneane's Cafe opened on Mulberry Street in historic downtown Macon which is still in business today. Serving Macon, GA the finest selection of country style meats, fresh vegetables, made from scratch biscuits, flat bread, homemade pies and banana pudding made fresh daily. All vegetables are fresh and when available, locally grown, and a dinner of a meat and two vegetables will run you only $7.50. The meats and veggies change each day, but there's always at least six meats and several veggies to choose from.
4. Dawson's Kitchen
3360 Brookdale Ave, Payne City, GA 31204
Not only is Dawson’s kitchen a quintessential Meat + Three restaurant, but they also offer farm fresh produce, baked goods and specialty items like Pimiento Cheese, Chicken salad and more. Located in the Payne City neighborhood, Dawson’s Kitchen has been in operation since 1996 and is family owned and operated. They are open Monday thru Friday for Lunch and Dinner and open Saturday till 5pm. Dawson’s doesn’t waste energy on pretentious décor or a fancy façade, all their energy goes into make awesome entrees and mouthwatering side dishes.
5. S&S Cafeteria
2124 Riverside Dr. Macon, GA
S&S Cafeteria is a haven for comfort food, founded by the Smith family in Columbus, Ga. This buffet style restaurant winds you through a long hall to arrive at the steaming seemingly endless food line. A true meat and three, visitors have a choice from old stand-bys like roast beef, chopped steak and salisbury steak every week but specials are traded in and out like their spicy spaghetti, salmon cakes and fried shrimp. The veggies are always warming to the soul with macaroni like your grandma used to make it and lima beans that melt in your mouth. Don’t forget the extras like their pies, cheesecake, cobbler and cold goodies like the combination salad, pasta salad or cottage cheese pears. The service staff is always attentive and the dining room buzzing with activity. S&S delivers true southern fare at price so good you can bring the whole family.

The story of H&H restaurant is forever woven into the history of Macon, GA, and we are so excited that this iconic Macon staple has reopened under new management! The new H&H opened to a packed house, and has received positive reviews and well wishes for a long future.

Good-To-Go is also a local favorite, but has recently gone through a major change in appearance, name, and menu options! This change occured as our poll was running and Macon proved that Good-To-Go was indeed a local favorite. The new restaurant Grow is the hottest new farm to table restaurant specializing in fresh local food.
