Top 5 Athletes Associated with Macon

Our first TOP 5 List was for professional athletes who were born in Macon, Ga. But we got so much feedback about other athletes who should be on the list we decided to open the criteria to those "associated" with Macon. So here is the list of Top 5 Athletes associated with Macon.  Did your favorite make the list?   

1.  Kevin Brown

Macon Association:  Lives in Macon

Kevin Brown, born in Milledgeville, GA, is a former Major League Baseball right-handed pitcher. He played from 1986 to 2005, leading the American League in wins once and leading the National League in earned run average twice. He was also a six-time All-Star.  He currently resides in Macon, GA with his wife and children.

2.  Jeff Malone

Macon Association:  Attended Southwest High School

Jeff Malone is a retired American professional basketball player. He played college basketball at Mississippi State University, and is mostly known for his time with the Washington Bullets (1983–90) of the NBA, where he was an NBA All-Star twice, playing the shooting guard position. He also played for the Utah Jazz, Philadelphia 76ers, and Miami Heat.

3.  Kareem Jackson

Macon Association:  Born in Macon and Attended Westside High School

Kareem Jackson is a cornerback for the Houston Texans of the National Football League. He played college football at the University of Alabama, and high school football at Westside High School in Macon.

4.  Peter Persons 

Macon Association:  Born in Macon

Peter Persons is a professional golfer who has played on the PGA Tour and the Nationwide Tour. He was born and raised in Macon, Georgia. He received coaching and training in the junior program developed by Georgia Golf Hall of Fame member Dan Nyimicz at Idle Hour Golf Club in Macon.  Persons won the 1980 Georgia Junior Championship and was the runner-up to Sam Randolph at the 1985 U.S. Amateur. He was the 1984–1985 Georgia Golf Association Men's Player of the Year. He attended the University of Georgia and was a member of the golf team. He turned professional in 1986.

5.  Chipper Jones

Macon Association:  Played for Macon Braves minor league baseball team

In 1991, Chipper Jones played with the Macon Braves, Atlanta's class-A minor league affiliate. He spent his entire 19-year MLB career playing for the Atlanta Braves, and all 23 years as a professional baseball player in the Atlanta organization.
