Top 5 Restaurants Worth The Drive Part 2
1. Thai Pepper
1806 Russell Pkwy #1100
Warner Robins, GA 31088
Thai Pepper has a little of everything, Japanese, Sushi and Thai. We are particularly fond of the Red Curry which maybe the best in the area. The Thai stir fry with garlic sauce is excellent as well. If you’re looking for some serious heat order “Fire Starter”, the name basically says it all. A perfect medium is two peppers, It’s plenty of heat and I can still taste the actual food. Everything always comes out of the kitchen fresh, almost like they have a garden and they just plucked the veggies from it. The rice is always cooked perfect and the wait staff is friendly and efficient. You are never kept waiting long and they always come back often to refill drinks and check to make sure everything is up to par. It’s not a huge restaurant, which adds to its charm and personality. If you love Thai, Japanese or Sushi and you haven’t tried Thai Pepper…. You’re missing out!
2. Deano’s Italian
110 W Jackson Street
Dublin, GA 31021
When searching for a restaurant in Dublin I came across Deano’s Italian and was immediately impressed by the fact they were one of the top recommended pizza places in Georgia by USA Today . While this visit was not about pizza, but more about finding good restaurants worth a reasonable drive from Macon, I took a pass on the pizza and went for a traditional sit down meal. After a brief chat with the server it was determined that several of the pasta dishes were local favorites and of course the pizza was highly recommended. I decided on the Caprese salad for an appetizer since any real Italian restaurant will take great pride in their Caprese and for the entrée I ordered the Fresh Catch which was Trout served with Au Gratin potatoes and seasonal veggies.
The Mozzarella was very fresh, the tomatoes were ripe and the seasoning was perfect. The Trout was cooked perfectly Mediterranean style and the Au Gratin potatoes were some of the best I have tried in a long time. I think I even finished off my dinner companion’s potatoes. I would have to say Deano’s would be worth the drive from even further away from Macon, it was that good. On my next trip I intend to try the pizza. I would also give them props on their website! Not often you find a restaurant with such a nice website to help in your decision making process.
3. Saigon Noodle House
402 Georgia Hwy 247
Bonaire, GA 31005
You know a restaurant is good, when they have to expand within the first year! Saigon Noodle House has been a Warner Robins favorite since the day it opened. This Vietnamese themed restaurant serves huge portions of authentic dishes ranging from Vermicelli bowls to Traditional fried rice. What makes it even better is that they serve PHO! This food is definitely worth the drive…no really, I’ve made the drive 3 times in the same week. My personal suggestion is the B7 – Grilled Lemongrass Chicken Rice Vermicelli Bowl. 4. Aubri Lanes
114 S. Wayne Street
Aubri Lanes in Milledgeville came highly recommended as a must visit place after we ran our first edition of the TOP 5 worth the drive restaurants. Forget about the warm and inviting atmosphere, the friendly server, the awesome food and great wine menu, the Bank Vault turned into a wine cellar cozy table for two alone is worth the drive to Aubri Lanes. Yes, the meal was fantastic. The appetizer called “Three Little Pigs” was too tempting by name alone and the Pork Bellies with sweet onion marmalade was yet again a reason to visit this restaurant on its own merit. The entrée of Pecan Crusted Carolina Trout was cooked perfectly and the side dish of Aubri’s famous collard greens had me hunting down the chef for the exact ingredients. Turns out soaking your greens in brown sugar and white apple vinegar is a brilliant idea. If you are looking a romantic dinner for two for just about any occasion then do yourself a favor and reserve the Bank Vault table and drive to Aubri Lanes.
5. Lane Southern Orchard
50 Lane Road
Fort Valley, GA 31030
The food at lane Southern Orchard’s Peachtree Café and Bakery is so good that you’ll grab a seat in a rocking chair out front and lull yourself to sleep! The menu is good ole fashioned southern cooking ranging from meatloaf to fried chicken. The menu also has a large selection of hot sandwiches, and they even have a variety of healthy salad options. Don’t forget to save room for peach ice cream!
